About Me

Despite being a) a student and b) relatively young, and therefore generally expected to be up to date with all things technology and web related, I’m a bit of a newcomer to this whole blogging malarkey. I don’t, like people I know who shall remain unnamed, still refer to it as a web log, but neither am I au fait with all the ins and outs of the blogging world.

However, I am led to believe from my limited blog knowledge that it’s customary to share a few details about yourself with the lovely internet community. This now prompts nasty flashbacks to classroom/seminar/freshers week type scenarios and the dreaded ‘share something interesting about yourself’ moment, inevitably followed by a dry mouth and an extended ‘ermmmm ...’

So to make this a bit easier I’ve decided to answer a few simple questions to give readers of this blog a better idea of who I am and why I am subjecting the world at large (or the few people I have blackmailed/bribed into reading) to my ramblings.

Name? Catherine Love (and yes, I have heard every possible comment/joke relating to my surname ... but I kind of like it). Also hence the witty (or not so witty) title of this blog.

Age? Twenty-one.

Profession? English student/writer/bookworm/theatre geek (none of these actually earn me any money so I suppose they’re not technically professions ... but it sounds better than unemployed).

Favourite book? Impossible question ... I’ve never been very good at naming my favourite anything – the world is full of too many diverse and wonderful things to single one out. But the book I most recently read that made a real impression on me was The Innocent by Ian McEwan; his usual mix of compelling and unsettling.

Favourite song? See above ... I’m currently listening to the soundtrack of Hair A LOT, as well as quite a bit of Eliza Doolittle and Paloma Faith. I also have a lot of love for The Killers.

Favourite musical? At the moment it’s a three-way tie between Hair, Spring Awakening and Les Miserables. My favourite screen musical has to be Singing in the Rain because it’s an absolute classic and Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse dancing together is just magic!

Favourite play? Another tricky one, but I do like a bit of Pinter and another of my favourites is Top Girls by Caryl Churchill. And you can never go wrong with Shakespeare.

Reason for starting this blog? After reading a few theatre blogs I thought that as a theatre lover myself I’d like to be able to share my views about theatre with others, as well as my views on various other random things. This blog will mostly be dedicated to reviews and other theatre related goodness, but it may also include my ramblings on life, the universe and anything else that pops into my brain. In a nutshell, it’s just another excuse to write.
